Getting Students Started with FoodFocus:
The FoodFocus manual is structured as a tutorial and if you work through the manual while using FoodFocus, you will will be familar with how to use FoodFocus. With your students, one approach is to assign lessons which use FoodFocus to answer a quiz with the students being given step-by-step instruction for each question which gives students exposure to FoodFocus (see Introductory Lesson Plans below). Often teachers introduce their students to FoodFocus with a short example (see Demonstration with Simple Meal Example below).

Introductory Lesson Plans
If you would like to introduce students to FoodFocus using the lesson plans, review the "One Food at a Time" and "Searching and More" lessons available on the Resources |Lesson Plans|FoodFocus area of this web site. The lessons are to help students develop an ability to use FoodFocus while they develop nutritional knowledge as they "Determine the nutritional value of a variety of foods".

Demonstration with a Simple Meal Example
One way to get students more familiar with FoodFocus is to have them analyze a food recall consisting of a simple fast food lunch. The following resources help with analysis of the following meal:
  • 1 large cheeseburger
  • 1 slice of tomato
  • a milkshake
  • large French fries

Two ways to do such a demo are:
  • Use The "To Start" Sheet- the FoodFocus manual includes a two page (one sheet) handout with step by step instructions on how to analyze the above meal
  • Use FoodFocus Training Demo- the Resources | Interactive Training part of this website has a flash demo which goes through the analysis of the above meal. See the Getting Started with FoodFocus training demo.

Getting Students Started with FitFocus:
The FitFocus manual is structured as a tutorial and if you work through the manual while using FitFocus, you will will be familar with how to use the program. The Resources | Interactive Training part of this website has several flash demos on FitFocus which may help you become more familiar with FitFocus in order to determine the best way to introduce FitFocus to your students. See Interactive Training Demonstrations for FitFocus.
