Here is another opportunity to practise using FoodFocus to solve nutrition analysis problems.
After this quiz, you will be able to judge how well you understand FoodFocus capabilities described in this tutorial. As in the Basic Quiz, how you go about solving a problem is more important than the final answer. Even if you already know the answer, think how about how you could help someone find the answer themselves so that the answer will be hopefully be more meaningful and long lasting.
The suggested approach is to try and answer each question in order (using FoodFocus to help you), then click on the Answer field after each question. That will display the anwer for that question at the top of your screen. Then click on Next Question to show you the next question at the top of the screen. Keep doing that until you have finished all 12 questions. (If you usually print the lesson so you have a paper copy to work with, you will find that the set of answers follows the set of questions. We only tell you this to help you avoid inadvertently peeking at the answers.)
Hint: Try to answer each question as simply as possible by using the lowest level approach you can. Three levels to consider are:
The questions start here:

Answer: 2. A+D. This is an example of where you need two separate food lists. Start a new food list. Choose the foods for the Old Plan and note the amount of fat, the percent of calories from fat and the total calories. You may wish to save this or just start a new food list. Now choose the foods for the New Plan and again note the amount of fat, the percent of calories from fat and the total calories. A. is true and B. is false since ratio of fat is 35.4/73.1, C. is false since % calories from fat is 47% for old and 39% for new plan, D. is true since 1374 calories in old plan and 797 in new plan. Back to the First Question To Next Section
Answer: 3. B+D Create a new food list. Load the individual foods. Make sure that each individual in the family is defined under People. Set the time period to 7 days under File|Preferences. Look at the rainbow to see the calculated amount in each food group (milk is not best represented so statement A is false). View % Daily RNI under Analysis to see that total fat and saturated fat exceed RNI's (so statement B is true) and to see that the percent of calories from fat is between 40% and 50% (so statement D is true). Sort the food list by saturated fat to see that ice cream, ground beef..... contribute more saturated fat than the weiners (so statement E is not true). Next Question
Answer Options: 1. A 2. A+B 3. A+B+C 4. A+B+C+D
Answer: 3. A+B+C Create a new food list. Load the individual foods. Make sure that a 25 year old male is defined under People. View % Daily RNI under Analysis. Total fat (106% of RNI), cholesterol (190% of RNI) and saturated fat (158% of RNI) all exceed the daily maximum so statement A, B and C are true. Protein is below the Recommended Nutrient Intake ( 41% of RNI) so statement D is not true. Next Question
Answer: D. Create a new food list. Load the individual foods. Make sure that a 29 year old female is defined under People. View % Daily RNI under Analysis. It is too late because the recommended intake of saturated fatty acids has already been exceeded (139% of RNI). Next Question
Answer: A. Start a new food list. Load each of the food items. Make sure the Recommended Nutrient Intake is correct for a 29 year old female. Look at the Vitamin C RNI and calculate one third of the daily value (30 mg so one third is 10 mg). Sort foods by Vitamin C. (Coleslaw 10.4 mg, Potato 10.0 mg, Apple sauce 2.3 mg, Sherbet 0 mg) so the correct answer is 1. Baked Potato or Coleslaw Next Question
Answer: E. steak, egg, muffin Next Question
Answer: C. 595% as there are 3.8 gm in 100 grams of beef steak inside round lean broiled and 22.6 grams of regular ground beef fried medium. Next Question
Answer: Answer: C. canola, sunflower.... You can create a food list with these foods and and sort by saturated fat but a simpler approach is to select oils under Food by Type| Fats and Oils| Oils and then sort that temporary list by saturated fat. Next Question
Answer: 4. A+B+C+D. Make sure that the Recommended Nutrient Intake is specified for a pregnant 18 year old (first trimester). Create a new food list. Either load the foods in the food recall individually or, if you saved this list when you were doing the Basic Quiz, you can just load it. Select Analysis and choose the % Daily RNI option. Next Question
Answer Options: 1. A+C 2.A+D 3. B+C 4. B+D
Answer: 2. A+D Create a new food list. Add 10 ml of whole milk and 5 ml of powdered coffee whitener. Sort by total fat to show that the Milk Plan is lower fat (so A is correct). Sort by saturated fat to show that the Milk Plan is lower in saturated fat (so D is correct). Next Question
Answer Options: 1. A,B,C,D,E 2. D,A,B,C,E 3. D,A,B,E,C 4. E,D,C,B,A
Answer: 3. D, A, B, E, C The steps to show this are: Create a new food list and add each of the foods listed. Put the foods in order by Vitamin A by using Sort|Vitamins|Vitamin A from the main menu line. Next Question
Answer: E. President's Choice Fibre First, Fibre 1...You can show this by selecting Breakfast Cereals under Food by Type and sorting the list by fibre.Next Question
Congratulations on getting to the end of this quiz. If you feel confident that you understand the capabilites of FoodFocus, you will be able to do relatively complex nutrient analysis and you will be able to plan challenging exercises for your students.
