10. Printing

You can print the list of foods you have chosen, the pictograph images, all the details behind the nutrient analysis calculations, as well as cost details.

Objectives

After this lesson, you will be able to:

Lesson

Printing is another simple lesson. (To practise printing, start FoodFocus and set it up so that you can see this tutorial screen on the left half of your monitor and FoodFocus on the right half as described in lesson 5. Be sure you have selected a few foods as described in lessons 5, 6 or 7 so that you have a food list to practise with.) There are several print output options you should be aware of:

You should understand that there are two basic groups of printout:

  1. Graphic- The printout which looks like windows on your computer monitor is handled as a graphic image. (The Nutrient Analysis display and the This Page printout are examples.) That requires a lot of data so it is relatively slow to print (especially over a Local Area Network) and, if your printer has colour, these pages can also be relatively expensive to print.
  2. Text- The printout which is just letters and numbers uses much less data than graphic output so it is faster and less expensive to print. (The Food List and the Nutrient Detail and RNI Detail reports are examples.)

Review Topics

  1. How would you keep printouts from several students (or clients) separate?
  2. What printout includes nutrient data in both scientific units and as a percentage of Recommended Nutrient Intake?

Independent Practice

For a representative food list, print each type of printout and time how long it takes to be printed out. Is the distinction between graphic and text output relevant for your situation?

Coming Next....

A quiz that allows to use what you have learned in lessons 1 to 10. After that lesson 11 deals with how to sort the foods you have select using by Type, by Search or by Nutrient....
